A group of boys from Weymouth, Dorset, have been making headlines recently for their unique approach to preparing for their roles in the hit musical show, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie: Teen edition.
As part of their preparation, these boys have been waxing their legs to perfect their drag queen look for the show. This may seem like a bold and unusual move, but it is a testament to their commitment to their craft and their willingness to go the extra mile to deliver an unforgettable performance.
Mallachy, Ben, Fin, Elliot and Patrick are part of the WOW Youth Musical Theatre group based in Weymouth, and they have been practicing tirelessly for their roles in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. The show follows the story of Jamie New, a sixteen-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a drag queen.
The musical has become a sensation since its debut in London’s West End in 2017 and has inspired many young people to pursue their dreams and be true to who they are. The boys from Weymouth are no exception, and they are using their roles in the show as an opportunity to raise money for charity.
Their decision to wax their legs is not just a cosmetic choice, but it is also a way for them to immerse themselves fully in their roles and to better understand what it means to be a drag queen. It shows their dedication to this show and their willingness to push boundaries and challenge societal norms.
The boys’ efforts have not gone unnoticed, and they have been praised for their commitment to the show and their willingness to support a good cause. Charging their fellow WOW members £5 for each wax strip pulled, provided many moments of anticipation and laughter and even more importantly they have managed to raise £110 for charity.
Their story demonstrates the transformative power of theatre and the arts. It shows how young people can use their talents to inspire and empower others and to make a positive impact on their communities.
In a world that often tries to put people into boxes and restrict their expression, the boys of Weymouth are a shining example of what it means to be true to oneself and to embrace who you are. Their bravery and dedication to the WOW and theatre going community serve as an inspiration to us all.
