The young members of WOW returned to the Pavilion stage with ‘a sparkling production full of talent and energy from start to finish.

The WOW Show 2021, which took place November 11-13 at Weymouth Pavilion, featured an array of songs from musicals, classic and new. Opening with hit songs from Elton John’s Rocketman biopic, it continued with a non-stop 90 minutes of entertainment, including numbers from Waitress, Les Misérables, The Addams Family, and an emotionally charged finale from Dear Evan Hansen. Writing in the Dorset Echo, Marion Cox, noted that, “the young people performed with skill and superb precision, the show brings out all the best in musical theatre and the amazing self confidence of the cast.” This was echoed both in the comments on her review and this letter to the Echo.

“I’ve been a fan of the WOW shows since they began and Saturday night’s performance was just brilliant, exuberant, professional and out of this world, on a par with West End shows, if not better!”

Hilary Bennett

The show was directed and choreographed by Martine Burt, who did a truly remarkable job of bringing a show of such quality to the stage, given the impact of lockdowns limitations on the rehearsal process. Even when face-to-face rehearsals were permitted again these initially took place with four ‘bubbles’ of up eight performers.

Welcome back WOW, you certainly live up to your name!

Graham Liverton, Regional Councillor NODA SW

Graham Liverton, NODA Southwest Regional Councillor, praised the production’s pure theatrical joy and musical range, noting how, even with simple staging, the cast’s “interpretation of the numbers and energetic dancing just took your breath away.” He highlighted powerful ensemble moments from Les Misérables medleys to emotionally resonant modern selections, and observed that the seamless continuity and enthusiasm made the ninety minutes fly by — leaving audiences “wanting more.”
