WOW Show Wins Awards

Receiving award for best youth production.
NODA President, Chris Ingram, presents the Best Youth Production Award to Martine Burt and Alan McKechan.

The 2015 WOW Show scooped two awards at the NODA South West Awards Evening, including the Councillors’ Cup for Best Youth Production. It also gained the award for most Imaginative Compilation. This show was directed and choreographed by Martine Burt who has previously received the Outstanding Choreography award from NODA SW for her 2013 WOW Show.

This compilation show featured songs from a wide range of musicals, classic and modern, including ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Cats’, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Calamity Jane’, ‘Copacabana’, ‘Kiss Me Kate’, ‘Billy Elliott’, ‘Anything Goes’, ‘Guys and Dolls’ and ’We Will Rock You’ as well as the hit song ‘Let it Go’ from the Disney’s ‘Frozen’. Also included was a Beatles section and our group of ‘Boogie Woogie Sisters’ had everyone swinging with their 1940s style harmonies on numbers like ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo.

In his NODA Show Report, NODA Regional Councillor, Nick Lawrence, referred to it up as an ‘extremely classy presentation’  and wrote that it ‘lived up to the name of the presenters’, that is, ‘The WOW Show: Song and Dance in Perfect Harmony.’

At the awards evening, which took place in Bristol in March 2016, WOW’s co-founder and President, Janet Stockley, was also presented with a Special Achievement Award from NODA. In addition, WOW’s show programme for Hairspray won the Mary Hobbs Shield as runner up in the deluxe programme competition.
