Nine younger members of WOW performed their first cabaret set at Fayre in the Square in front of a very appreciative audience. This annual music event over the Spring Bank Holiday is organised by Weymouth Rotary as a means to raise monies for a number of local charities. WOW has supported it since its inception in 2014 and has also been one of the beneficiaries in the past.
Two weeks before the event, most of WOW’s experienced cabaret performers were unavailable so creative director, Martine Burt, formed and rehearsed a new group to meet the high performance standards required.
WOW President, Janet Stockley, was amazed at what they had achieved in such a short space of time and said to them, “How can I tell you how wonderful you were. Martine has worked you so hard and the results were fabulous!”
The group opened their set with two numbers from last April’s acclaimed production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and followed this with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and a selection from Matilda the Musical. A couple of rock ‘n’ roll numbers upped the tempo before they closed with Don’t Stop Believin’.
